Special Interest Groups

Exeter Camera Club members run a range of exciting sub-groups covering all genres of photography. Here’s a summary:

Visual Art – The Visual Art Group is a small friendly Group which meets once a month in Exeter to share and discuss images that are probably a little outside the usual landscape, portrait and still life remit. We regularly set projects such as – 12 images in one room in your house – Lympstone at a set time – images in the style of famous artists etc. Photoshop features quite a lot, even though some of our number cannot remember what they did! You can see some of our images in the gallery section under Visual Art Group.

Black, White and Monochrome (BWM) Group –  The BWM Group aims to promote Black/White/Monochrome photography as a sub-group of Exeter Camera Club. We meet monthly on Zoom to discuss and appraise images from set and open subject themes. Opportunities are provided to develop photographic skills and techniques with members input and occasional professional photographer’s workshops, we also provide a platform for members to present their work. We have outings to photograph landscapes, cityscapes, local events, etc.

Shades of Grey Group is a small group of like minded photographers, focusing on Black & White imagery. The main aim is to encourage discussion of members’ images and also provide help if requested in a friendly environment. We meet monthly between September & May, currently on Zoom. We have topics for each meeting to encourage members to go out and take photo’s which can then be discussed by the group. However, we are also happy to see images on any subject the photographer wishes.

Nature Group   – The Nature Group aims to promote all aspects of Nature photography as a subgroup of the Exeter Camera Club. Relevant Nature subjects will cover any living thing in the Natural World including: Birds, Animals, Plants, Insects and Fungi in their natural environment. Images may be taken locally or globally. The Group will provide a safe and friendly environment where all members (experienced and novice) can display their images for appraisal and constructive critique. The aim of the Group is to encourage members to improve their skills and techniques and to share expertise from the more experienced members. In addition to regular discussion meetings, a series of field trips will be scheduled as part of the Programme and members are also encouraged to arrange their own trips between like-minded members. As the Group’s focus in on learning and improvement, members are expected to submit images which are less than perfect to promote advice from the floor and discussion.

Scapes –  The Scapes Group aims to promote all aspects of ‘landscape’ photography as a subgroup of the Exeter Camera Club. Relevant subjects will cover Landscape, Seascape, Nightscape, Cityscape, etc., etc. as part of our natural environment. Images may be taken locally or globally. The Group will provide a safe and friendly environment where all members (experienced and novice) can display their images for appraisal and constructive critique. The aim of the Group is to encourage members to improve their skills and techniques and to share expertise from the more experienced members. And also to explore new locations with good company, providing each other with a degree of security in remote locations.
