• International Print Exchange This may be of interest to some members - you might need to ignore the bit about the Reddit username but make sure to put your email address!!! I participated last year and recieved some nice prints from an American photographer and sent some of mine to the States. The advert from Reddit: Back by popular demand! And because I'd still do it even if nobody else signed up. I would go full Yzma and mail boxes to myself. There is a link at the bottom of this post to the form where you can sign up. But please do read the info below first. I promise to keep it brief.
What is this I don't even
If you're unfamiliar with the idea of a print exchange, it's pretty much what it says on the tin. Everyone will make a print (or prints) and mail them to other people! It's a really great way to give your photography life outside of a dusty hard drive, to share your work, and to see art made by others! Sign up for one print, or 824*, or anywhere in between! *Don't sign up for 824, you'll be disappointed.
Important dates for this print exchange
3/12/2024 - Exchange sign-ups open 4/12/2024 - Exchange sign-ups close, and a quick round of "last chance to back out" emails will go out so people have a chance to withdraw themselves from the exchange if needed 4/14/2024 - Random assignments are made with the final list of participants, and emailed out 6/30/2024 - Please be sure to have your print(s) mailed out no later than this date. Preferably a lot earlier. 7/5/2024 - Stickied thread will go up for people to comment if they didn't receive as many prints as they expected - we will have volunteers to help fill the gaps when that happens
Who can participate?
Anyone in the world who can send and receive photos in the mail is welcome to participate. If you are not able to send mail internationally, please don't sign up.
What kinds of photos are allowed?
Any size, genre, and (photographic) medium is allowed for this exchange! This includes digital, film, inkjet, darkroom, alt process, instant film, etc. etc. I have not yet received a cibachrome from one of these, and my disappointment is immeasurable. If you want to send a photo that is even remotely NSFW, please reach out to and contact your recipient on Reddit to check with them first. Think of the children!
Can I send stuff besides prints?
I think it's great to include a letter or a note. A lot of people like to include stickers or other goodies. Extras like that are fine, but not required. Anthrax is frowned upon.
Will I be sending to the same person/people I am receiving from?
Probably not, although there is nothing in the script I use to shuffle assignments that specifically prevents this from happening.
How are you handling my personal information?
Email Addresses: Your email address will not be shared with anyone without your permission. I only collect it so that I can distribute your assignments after they are randomly generated. Names: Your "mailing name" will not be made public, but it will be shared privately with every person who is assigned to mail you a print. Mailing Addresses: Your address will not be made public, but it will be shared privately with every person who is assigned to mail you a print. Reddit Usernames: Your Reddit username will be shared with anyone assigned to mail you a print, as well as everyone who is expecting a print from you. There will be no anonymous freeloading.
What if I don't get any prints?
This has historically been the biggest problem with print exchanges. I doubt we have a significant number of people signing up with the intention of freeloading. But sometimes life gets in the way, and people don't get their prints out. To mitigate this and try to make sure everyone has a great experience, we have the option for people to sign up as volunteers! You can opt in to send extra prints out to people who got stiffed near the end of the exchange. My hope is that nobody will walk away from the exchange without having received at least one print from a fellow participant.
Any other questions can go in the comments below, and I'll do my best to answer! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfZa8CnK28koPeTyJguP1nDHS1Lr69TYZe8Uc6WlieVsawh8w/viewformThis may be of interest to some members - you might need to ignore the bit about the Reddit username but make sure to put your email address!!!
