Scapes Group – Field trip to Watermouth Bay Paul Marcus has kindly arranged a field trip to Watermouth Bay in North Devon, initially on Tuesday 10th October. Those that cannot manage weekdays may like to visit this location on Saturday 14th Oct. “Watermouth lies on the North Devon coast between Coombe Martin and Ilfracombe. It is accessible off the A399 heading West from Combe Martin or East from Ilfracombe. There’s a car park on the Quay. When I last checked the car park was open daily: £1.50 for 2 hours, £3 for 4 hours, £5 all day. There is a café there but its opening hours are a little irregular and for that reason, and in case a longer walk on the coast path seems attractive, I’d advocate a packed lunch. There is lots of interest local to the bay at both high and low tide: boats, good rock formations, a headland walk and a lookout. Following a short but steep climb to Widmouth Head there are many very good viewpoints of the headland looking East across Combe Martin Bay to Hangman Point and Little Hangman Hill. There are attractive small bays off the coastal FP heading West. For devotees of long exposures, if the seas are at all rough they break on Sexton’s Burrow at the NW end of the bay. I have attached a map with some key photography locations highlighted. Note the caves to the East of the bay also. High tide that day is at 17.06 BST. As the nights are drawing in I suggest we meet at the quay car park at 11.00. After looking around locally and then having lunch we could move to a high point as the tide rises.” PaulPaul Marcus has kindly arranged a field trip to Watermouth Bay in North Devon, initially on Tuesday 10th October. Scapes Zoom evening 12th Sept. 2023. Hi Scaper's As many volunteers are away twixt now and then, this is an early notification of our next Scapes Zoom evening on Tuesday 12th September 2023. As usual please email your images re-sized and named as below to Dave Dummett at david.dummett1@gmail.com no later than Saturday evening 9th September 2023. As Dave is soon away on holiday, receipt of your images may not be notified until late on the Sunday. Once again Paul McLoughlin has kindly volunteered to host this meeting. Thank you Paul. NOTE: your images need to be shown sequentially, so PLEASE put your name BEFORE the numbering: Example: Your-Name_01-###, Your-Name_02-###, etc. Do choose a sensible number of images to get through in your five-minute slot to allow discussion time! The Zoom link for the Scapes 12 Sept. 2023 will be emailed to you later along with a reminder. Please note: For the group to continue successfully as it is, more volunteers to host an occasional evening will be necessary. Fortunately hosting is not a demanding task, mainly because we are blessed with Dave Dummett who kindly receives and collates our images ready for presentation. The Host’s primary task is to introduce the evening at 7.30pm and ask if there are any notices. Then start the show while keep an eye on each presenter’s time keeping (normally a 5 minute slot). Try to ensure the meeting finishes by 9.30pm and finally thank everyone. Although there are notification emails and a Zoom URL reminder to be sent out, our current regular volunteer hosts are happy to action these for any new volunteers. If any are prepared to step forward and have a go, please contact either myself adrian@t1000.co.uk or Anne Whiteley whiteleyanne61@gmail.com Looking forward to seeing what everyone has been up to! Information about group events Hi everyone I thought it might be helpful to post information on the website about group events, so it we can find it more quickly than in the WhatsApp chat, which of course covers quite a wide range of topics. Adrian & I have agreed that this would be useful. Any member of the group can post the information here in the scapes forum. It is quite straightforward, but if you are unsure about how to do it let me know. Most club members cannot post items in the calendar but Adrian and I have the relevant permissions. If you are arranging a group event, let me know, and I will post it in the calendar. My email is the easiest way to reach me: bridget1410davies@gmail.comHi everyone I thought it might be helpful to post information on the website about group events, so it we can find it more quickly than in the WhatsApp chat, which of course covers quite a wide range of topics. January 2023 Scapes Field Trip: Wed 25th Final Details January 2023 Scapes Field Trip: Wed 25th (& possibly Sat 28th.) Hooe Lake is being suggested for Wed 25th for the ‘Retirees’ after consulting the likely weather and also because there was little interest shown in heading Lyme Regis way this month. Plus because according to the met office the North Cornwall weather looks grim on 25th. Should the Saturday 28th 'Workers' group prefer one of the other locations, please arrange that amongst yourselves using the Scapes WhatsApp . January 2023 Field Trip – 2 dates… January 2023 Field Trip/s Starting in January we are trialling having 2 separate dates for our monthly field trip location. The plan being to try and cater for all members who wish to meet with others in the group to share a photographic outing. So we will have... A weekend date - for the workers ;-) A weekday date - for retirees ;-) The proposed January 2023 field trip dates are : Wednesday 25th January. Saturday 28th January. A selection of meeting venues will be proposed during our 10th January Scapes zoom meeting and final location chosen by members votes. PS: Sorry I am currently unable to add these dates to our Scapes calendar, - simply because I cannot remember how!January 2023 Field Trip/s Starting in January we are trialling having 2 separate dates for our monthly field trip location.
